Technological Innovation
In cooperation with the School of Engineering of Milan, SEMS is also involved in the TecnoBim project, whose first round - co-financed by Lombardy Regional Authorities – has successfully ended with the presentation of a bimodal Grande Punto prototype held in December 2006 at the Fiera dell’Artigianato (Crafts Fair) in Lombardy. This car is fitted with a dual engine: an electric engine (30/35 km endurance with max. speed of 75km/h) for urban use, and a diesel one for out-of-town use. The second round of the project is currently underway and will end in May 2008 with the presentation of a technological and innovative kit, whereby any vehicle might be turned into a bimodal one fitted with a dual supply: electric and diesel alike. This kit shall have no impact whatsoever on the original design of the vehicle. Sems is cooperating with the Politecnico (School of Engineering) and monitoring its operations, in particular in regard to the kit type-approval and marketing terms and conditions (costs, possible manufacturers, fitters, relations with institutions, potential operating partners).
