Il 7 gennaio NordCargo cambia la propria ragione sociale in DB Schenker Rail Italia S.r.l
Winning a competition against the municipalities of Frankfurt and Montreal, FNM S.p.A. assumes responsibility for organizing the 61st UITP World Congress and Exhibition together with ATM S.p.A. The event will be held next year in Milan from 8th to 10th June, in conjunction with Expo 2015. The Congress is organized every two years by the International Association of Public Transport.
In May, Trenitalia-LeNORD becomes Trenord S.r.l. The first and largest Italian operator specialized in local public rail transport is founded, thanks to the joint venture between Trenitalia S.p.A. and the FNM Group, completing the unification process between FNM Group's railway operator LeNord and the Lombardy regional division of Trenitalia S.p.A. The new Company currently manages 42 regional and 10 suburban lines in Lombardy, as well as the Malpensa Express service that now connects Milano Cadorna and Milano Centrale stations to the Malpensa International Airport.
In January, with the sale of an additional 11%, DB Schenker Rail Italy S.r.l. becomes the majority shareholder of NORDCARGO S.r.l. while still holding a 40% stake in the Company.
The sale of 49% of NORDCARGO S.r.l. in favour of DB Schenker Rail Italy, a subsidiary of the German DB Shenker, is completed in the month of January. In August, the Trenitalia-LeNORD joint venture is founded together with Trenitalia for the management of the entire Lombardy region. The establishment of this new Company follows the Memorandum of Understanding between the Italian Government and the Region of Lombardy for the improvement and strengthening of the regional railway service, paving the way for an absolutely new experiment of reorganization of local public transport services on a regional basis.
In line with the strategy of focusing on the activities related to its core business, the subsidiary Avionord S.r.l. is sold. On the 3rd of April 2008, FNM shares are admitted to "Segment 1 of Mercato Expandi" of the Italian Stock Exchange. At the same time, the shareholders' meeting decides to incorporate Interporti Lombardi.
On the 9th of September rails between Cadorna and Bovisa are quadrupled, the urban route where all FERROVIENORD's railway lines converge, except from the Brescia Iseo Edolo. This required nine years of work and it has been one of the most important infrastructure projects for local public transport in Lombardy.
The railway business is reorganized to divide network management run by FNME S.p.A. from rail service, with the transfer of the Cargo and Local transport business units respectively to Ferrovie Nord Cargo and Ferrovie Nord Milano Trasporti. The same year, AET - Azienda Elettrica Ticinese - is founded, together with Nord Energia S.p.A. which was established for the construction and management of an electric power merchant line between Mendrisio (Switzerland) and Cagno.
The Malpensa Express airport connection service starts in May, linking Milano Cadorna station to the Malpensa 2000 airport.
The first section of Milan's underground railway link is launched between Certosa - Bovisa FNM and Milano Porta Venezia stations.
FNME S.p.A. replaces Ferrovie Nord Milano S.p.A. in the concession of railway lines. In December, FNM Autoservizi S.p.A. is founded. It has been operational starting from June 1986.
Railway activity begins with the activation of the Milano-Saronno line.
"Società Anonima Ferrovie Milano-Saronno e Milano-Erba", today FNM S.p.A., was established to build and manage railway lines throughout the Lombardy region. The railway network stretches in the north-western part of Lombardy, connecting Milan with Novara, Varese, Laveno, Como and also with Brianza up to Asso, thanks to the building of new lines and the acquisition of existing ones.
Thanks to the foundation of SeMS S.r.l. FNM Group enters the sustainable mobility market.
With the implementation of the cargo service Melzo - Zeebrugge (Belgium), the liberalization of rail freight takes place in Italy through FNME S.p.A. - Cargo Division. Thanks to the partnership with Telecom Italia, the new Company NordCom S.p.A. is founded, operating in the Information Communication Technology field.
Ferrovie Nord Milano Spa is entrusted with the management of the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway line in Valcamonica, and of some bus lines in the district of Brescia.
Ferrovie Nord Milano Esercizio S.p.A. (FNME) is established. It is responsible for the management of Ferrovie Nord Milano S.p.A.'s rail and automotive franchises.
The Region of Lombardy holds the majority stake of Ferrovie Nord Milano S.p.A.
